Walter Woods guides his Audi A4 station wagon out of a parking lot in St. Andrews, Scotland, and weaves his way toward the house he shares with his wife, Caroline, in a section of this famous town that tourists rarely visit. The radio, tuned to a classic rock station, plays low. Nearing his home Woods turns to his passenger with a devilish look and says, "Watch this." He drops the automatic transmission to "S" for "Sport" and punches the accelerator, pushing back both passengers into their seats. After a few seconds he slides the shift back to "D" and eases off the gas as he turns left toward his home, giggling.

They are a fussy bunch, the members of Oakmont Country Club. They expect nothing but premium playing conditions on their exalted 104-year-old golf course, the site of the 2007 U.S. Open. And even though the golf course maintenance staff provides an outstanding setting, the members still find things to fret about.

Amid proposals that would require manufacturers to engineer products from more reusable materials and hold them accountable for the disposal of their products after their usefulness, Ransomes Jacobsen, a Textron company, is leading the way by introducing its End-of-Life Mower disposal programme (ELMO).
Monty Impressed With Vietnam Site

Colin Montgomerie is designing the first 18-hole golf course in Da Nang, Vietnam, one of the country's fastest-growing destinations. Located just off famed China Beach and minutes from Da Nang's international airport, The Montgomerie Links Vietnam has been routed to capitalize on its close proximity to the South China Sea and Marble Mountains, which are clearly visible from various points on the course.
IGCEMA Creates Edwin Budding Award

The International Golf Course Equipment Managers Association (IGCEMA) has created the Edwin Budding Award. The award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the golf course equipment industry, including those who have excelled in the business, history, design, engineering and maintenance of golf course equipment. The award will recognize those who think outside the box and who have dedicated themselves to improving the industry and their facilities.
